Real Estate Report: RBC Study Says More Canadians are Planning to Buy a New Home by 2012

A new Royal Bank Study says more Canadians are very likely to purchase a new home in the next couple years. 10% of the 2,047 people surveyed for the study said they plan to purchase a home by 2012 - up 3 % from 2 years ago. In the 18-to-24 year old range, 15% said they were very likely to buy which is double from the survey last year. The study also found 91% of Canadian homeowners believe a home is a good investment (highest level in 12 years). Of those surveyed, 44% of buyers planning to buy in the next couple years will chose get a fixed rate mortgage. The main reason for the resurgence in the real estate market is due to very low mortgage rates and improved affordability.

Drilling company can't keep up with demand
There are great signs of better times ahead for the Alberta oil and gas sector. The Petroleum Services Association of Canada (PSAC) estimates over 9,000 wells will be drilled across Canada in 2010 and estimates 6,095 wells will be drilled in Alberta this year, an increase of 4 per cent from 2009 drilling levels. There is one problem...a shortage of workers in Alberta. Nabors Industries is one of the biggest drilling companies in the country.
